Turns out I was lazy, and didn’t end up with anything random to drop in here over the break.
Holiday was great. Dublin Report as soon as I get everything sorted out and written and the photos imported. The week after Dublin was also good, because I was on actual holiday-holiday. Poor Mrs. Hatboy had to go to work, poor Wump had to go to school, and I dropped Toop off in the mornings to mommo‘s house to spend the day with her cousins, leaving me with nothing to do except sit at my computer and pretend to be a full-time writer. So that was fun.
To be fair she has been on holiday since the end of May, but to be even more fair she had to deal with both Wump and Toop for most of that time because she’s not lazy and neglectful like I am and didn’t just dump them on mommo.
I got a nice wad of Panda Egg written, and have decided to add it as a fifth anthology book. That is to say, I’m getting a proper cover for it and it will follow Deadshepherd and The First Feast as the third of my short story / novella anthologies Tales of the Final Fall of Man. The planned anthologies that would have been the third and fourth will now be the fourth and fifth. So I will have to update my Phase Plan as soon as I get covers.
As soon as Panda Egg is ready I will get The Last Days of Earth finished so that trilogy is out of the way. And after that, I have brought a bit of a fun new idea home from Worldcon 2019 that may once again require an alteration to my Phase Plan. But let’s see what happens.
Ropecon 2020’s theme is “the end of the world”, and unless the actual end of the world happens before then (not ruling it out) I should have my entirely appropriate The Last Days of Earth done so I can try to sell it there. Tick tock.
Now I’m just going to be getting back into the swing of work and counting down to my next holiday in four weeks’ time.
Well, I say “holiday” … I’m actually going to be hosting my parents for most of it so I won’t really be relaxing, let alone getting any writing in since they’re going to be living in the bar. And I’m not going back to work after the holiday, at least not to my current workplace because I quit. I will, however, be starting a new day job. Not, sorry to say, as a full-time writer of fiction. That dream will have to remain a dream for the time being.
Still, there we go. Let’s get on with it.
