Day 33. 90 pages, 40,154 words.
I really liked The Force Awakens. I liked Rogue One, maybe even more so than The Force Awakens. I liked The Last Jedi, although I’m still trying to wrap my head around what happened there and it really seems like switching directors and letting the story be completely overturned was a huge risk. Maybe it’ll pay off, though. It was a fine movie.
And I went to the cinema to see Solo. It was a close call but I went. And I enjoyed it. It was fine.
But apparently it didn’t do so well, and now there’s some real pressure for the next Star Wars movies to be great. Like, Black Panther great. In terms of the movie itself, or at least its box office. As Cracked has laid out quite well, there’s a lot to be worried about in the future of Star Wars.
Or they could charge a fortune for each ticket. As a bearded male aged 30 to 50, I have to say I disapprove … but that may be because my income is not above average.
Actually, the above video in my opinion has it backwards. It’s the 70-something percent of viewers who identify as die-hard fans who are going to be the problem here. Yes, there’s going to be a core of them who will see anything and everything, forever. I’m probably going to continue, myself – but more out of curiosity than an abiding love of the franchise. Although I do have abiding affection for the franchise. I’m not interested in Boba Fett, but I wasn’t all that interested in Han Solo either and there I was at the cinema. So sure, throw me in with the die-hard fans.
But then there also seems to be a large segment of that group that is just toxic.

They are the source of the complaints, the social media campaigns, the hatred against actors playing assorted roles. I think if Disney just cuts those turds lose, they could make up some ground bringing casual movie-goers back to the franchise.
But that’ll be a challenge too.
This is an interesting case. Is the Internet going to destroy Star Wars? What’s going to happen with the next movies?

I just stumbled upon this, imma go out on a limb and say “gem”, that I found insightful and pretty funny to boot. An anti-Last Jedi review that doesn’t seem to have any anti-feminism as a motive. Just solid points that bugged me as well.
Oooh, nice! Thanks for sharing, I pretty much agree with all of this. I still didn’t dislike The Last Jedi, but I’m not exactly impatient to re-watch it. All the hostility and debate over it is a big part of that though.
Infinity War, though, I can’t wait to watch again. It was so fucking good. I’m just sad we’re going to have to wait until Infinity War Part 2 before watching it with Wump. She really loves Spidey, and might not take “he’s probably going to be fine, but we don’t know yet” for an answer.
Hee! Yeah, having part 2 readily available might be the wisest course.
