Nope

Not today.

Had time to write this, but otherwise I am completely out of everything. I’m broken. It has not been a good day.

Sorry to see that, man…. I hope you’re doing better soon! I feel out of touch since my work computer has been behaving wonky online. I couldn’t get anything to post today or to email either.

It was a noble effort trying to reason with a right-wing bigot. Who, typical of such, didn’t like to be thought of as one.

Thanks bro. I don’t know, just had a downswing, they seem to happen on Sundays / Mondays. May be as simple as the weekend being over and the work week starting, but I enjoy my job and am perfectly content so … meh. Stupid brain. Just decides to be miserable even though there’s nothing actually wrong.

I’m perfectly happy to extend him the benefit of the doubt and say that he’s a victim of misinformation and fearmongering. Your government has pulled out all the stops with that shit, and it’s not just the US. I see it with people of my parents’ generation all over the world. And it’s probably even easier for younger people to fall into it in the US, considering the media.

Sure, it might be easier when there’s an established bias (I have plenty of my own), but I was willing to ignore that possibility and just look at the merits of Zared’s argument and counterpoints and suggestions. There just didn’t seem to be many, that’s all.

Still, if I hadn’t had a bad day yesterday and been blunt as a result, I’m sure this could have dragged on pointlessly for another three or four days.

Wish I had words of wisdom to overcome that crap, but we all operate differently. I actually get bummed when a debate is going poorly and I’m seeing the ugly side of humanity. As was the case late last week. Maybe that was a factor?

It would be easier without his arrogance and faux intellectualism and faux rationalism. He’s got no reason to be arrogant, as he’s ignorant in truth. But I suppose very few people recognize their own ignorance. The default condition is to feel we’re right, and if we’ve been watching a lot of news and thinking a LOT, then surely we’re informed? Yeah, not if it’s right-wing media. This has been proven with objective fact surveys.

That sounds like you’re finding a positive in something negative…LOL

I can see how that would get to you and I sympathise, but nah. Not at this end. I really wasn’t that invested and it really didn’t bother me. My expectations were so low.

This is comforting because I must admit to you I felt some guilt that perhaps I had caused you to be less patient with that fellah. Sounds like I need not worry on that score.

  2. Interesting interview. I learned a few things, and I think Zared would learn a few more if he dared to watch.
