Not a lot to report today.

Everyone’s talking about the utterly unsurprising next step the USian Nazis have taken, and “punching them: yes or no?” is back on the table as a discussion item.

I’d personally be more worried about the political mess with regards to how the US is under Russia’s thumb, and the actual nuclear sabre rattling the US and North Korea are doing.

Not because I think the US will actually literally become ruled by Putin, or because I think North Korea has its shit together … but just because even an unforeseen slightly-less-than-worst-case-scenario series of events on those fronts could cause massive damage to the human species.

Oh, and speaking of damage to the human species, while everyone was getting indignant about a couple of hundred “goosche-schtepping moronsch” with their heads up their arses, climate change was swept back under the rug. But then, attention span has always been one of the things I hate most about the human race.

Oh well. I may have to adjust my latest series in an even more scornful-of-humans direction, but it’s really only making it easier for me.

  1. Glad to see you are accurately aware of what my proto-fascist country is up to these days (not surprising about DPRK and only somewhat about Russia, but bravo on Charlottesville!) My parents live near there, and I’m only 120 miles away. We love that outdoor mall they polluted with their racist BS last weekend. But as long as our President keeps sheltering these Nazis–and boy does he ever, even getting really touchy when challenged–I really have no idea what to do except hope that someone saves us from ourselves. This could mean MANY different things, none of which I will specify here.

What I do know is voting for a corporate Democrat yet again (yes, Obama turned out to be one) wouldn’t have prevented any but the most extreme of our current problems. And perhaps that would have been something. But it wasn’t enough. We would have still been on the wrong path and getting shittier by the day. And no, that’s not in response to anything you’ve said, just throwing it out there. Maybe now the Republican party is done for. I can hope.

Your comments about free speech as it pertains to primal issues like racism still sits well in my head, and seems effective in debating the retards who always seem so very interested in “the vilest speech” (in their own words) being protected, while something in me suspects they don’t really say anything when liberals are silenced. I don’t need a debate about whether racism is wrong, or whether the Holocaust really happened. Some things are clear and decided, to actual human beings.

And the friend of yours who said we can start with punching Nazis, and deal with follow on issues as they arise (paraphrase)… quite so.

Wow, and I finally found these comments too, I swear I didn’t do anything stupid like block you, I have no idea how these ended up in the Spam bin. But well said and let’s keep our fingers crossed while we wait to see what the next dizzying crazy development is. I have a feeling we won’t have long to wait.

I’m getting increasingly active, if not activistic, myself in recent days and weeks. I think something changed in me at Worldcon. There’s a vision of the distant future I’m writing, and a vision of the immediate future I want to make happen, and I need to be part of it instead of just being a passive observer or critic.

No, I’m not going out punching Nazis. But in the wake of our own modest murderous-shitbag event, a probably-radical-Islam-motivated stabbing spree in Turku, I became aware of a Finnish nationalist calling for a revenge-attack aiming to kill at least 100 (in a maximum-insolence sense), and specifically targetting women and children.

The genius put his name, phone number and e-mail address on the post. Boom. Capped, recorded, and full-detail criminal activity report sent to the Helsinki police. Fuck that guy. And I’m just getting warmed up.

  2. Well said!
