Interlude: Guuuhhhh

Wound up busy again today. Not that I didn’t get time to write anything – I did get time to write a bit – just nothing I can put up on the blog right now. “Short” story #4 for the anthology is nicely underway, I finally settled on a pair of main characters and a plot, which … well, those are quite important parts of a story and probably explains why I didn’t get moving on it before now.

Anyway, I think it’s fun. I also had a semi-dream last night just as I was drifting off to sleep about a very cool thing to put in the story, and I didn’t get up to write it down so I was worried I would forget it, but evidently I was worried enough that it imprinted itself on my mind, so I did remember it, so in it goes.

Just as soon as I stop writing this, and get back to it.

Also had a ton of actual work-work to do, as well as sleeping in this morning (totally worth it) and having snow-shovelling duty after work (fucking finally!).

I didn’t bother to go back to the hardcover site to deal with PDF issues yet, despite my authorial sister Renee having some excellent support and advice for me. I haven’t pulled out my cover and original Word doc to play with, will have to do that on my home rig when I get back onto it. I’m curious as to what you folks think of the hardcover question, at the moment it seems quite cover-limited unless (as I am going with) I do a dust-jacket over the top of the cloth cover. The cloth cover doesn’t seem to have much in the way of imprinting options, just the spine text. But I could go for that. Dust-jacket could be fun, as long as I get it looking and working right. Mostly it’s the PDF margins that are pissing me off. How can it work fine for a 6″ x 9″ paperback, but overlap so massively on a 6″ x 9″ hardcover?

Oh well, will have to tweak the Word doc.

On top of all this, I’ve been without braces these past couple of days due to morning routine issues, so I’ve had these stupid trousers on without braces, which has caused consistent colostomy issues which have been making me short-tempered and inattentive. Sorry to anyone caught in the crossfire on that. I’m going to replenish my emergency bag kit (had to visit the bathroom a couple of times today and yesterday), find some proper pants from wherever they’ve ended up in our stupid laundry pile, and then quite literally get my shit together.

As I said. Guuuhhhh.
