Day 27. 161 pages, 58,131 words.
Okay, Dolores Umbrage may not have been raped in the Harry Potter series, but you know who was? Voldemort’s dad.
I know, this isn’t really news, but maybe everything is more twitchy now than it was back when I first read Harry Potter and the Halfblood Prince. But as soon as I read that flashback about poor horrible probably-inbred Merope Gaunt putting a love spell on Tom Riddle and vanishing with him, then finally letting him go in the sorry belief that Stockholm Syndrome had set in or the spell had become real, only for him to run a mile and leave her pregnant … ugh, that was pretty chilling.
Wump’s enjoying the sixth book too. It’s more about school and people than about monsters and magic, which is interesting. Interesting that she’s into it, I mean.
We sat down and watched a bit of a Jim Carrey double-show last night, too. Ace Ventura, Pet Detective and The Mask. Because Wump was interested. She didn’t really find Ace Ventura all that interesting, but she loved The Mask. It’s held up better than Ace, too. Aged more gracefully into these twitchy times.
The Mask and Ace Ventura, Pet Detective are both 22 years old.
