Interlude: The time we partied like Gatsby

Day 64. 210 pages, 103,826 words. Post #999.

Last night, Jay Gatsby threw a party in Helsinki. Mrs. Hatboy and I got kitted out and dolled up and nattified, and went along.

The venue had more Mumm champagne than I’d seen since my school 20th reunion last summer.

Well, it was a grand evening and I don’t have much to add at this point. The dress code was mostly ’20s style, or the 2016 equivalent, and the music had a solid sampling of old school jazz. The acts were pretty spectacular and fun to watch, too. I’m trying to upload a video from my phone to YouTube, let’s see how that went:

Yeah, so it was a lot of fun. Highly expensive but delicious drinks, and it was nice to get out in a bit of a nightclub environment again. The music, as mentioned, was all a bit modern and drum-heavy and techno, but I like that sort of thing and the ’20s-era backing was nice. I particularly liked the live band’s take on Barbie Girl, and the swing version of All About That Bass was funny. The DJ did a pretty good job.

And of course, most of the crowd were wonderfully dressed. There was a professional photographer but I’m not sure where those pics ended up or if they just hadn’t been uploaded yet, so I may add some more here later. I myself was accosted by a pair of ladies while Mrs. Hatboy was in the bathroom, and was asked to pose for pictures because I was just so damnably stylish. Ladies have excellent taste, what can I say? But the whole atmosphere was great. Everyone was there to have a good time. There was no hostility, no dicking around, no … okay, I think there was one couple having a throw-down screaming match on the edge of the dance floor near where we were standing, but everybody else seemed to be having a great time. If anything, the response to the old school music was warmer than the modern nightclub beats the DJ was putting down in between sets. I guess that’s because the ’20s were the reason everyone was there.

All in all, a great night. And because I slept in until the practically-noon time of 8:00am, I was actually more well-rested than I normally would be.

Now, on with the show.

Also, do you *know* how hard it is for me to not call you “Posh Spice” right now? Or, taking it a level further, “Francis”?
