Another Interlude: Another Video

Day 27. 93 pages, 44,388 words.

I know, I know. I’m working on it. I’ve got most of Blaran‘s editorial comments implemented now and am waiting on the cover. Man, this one is going to knock your socks off. It’s so damn good.

I had my best month so far in terms of Amazon sales in January. It was enough to pay our electricity bill, anyway, and that was a bit of a whopper considering how cold January was and how dire our firewood situation became. It’s not enough to retire on, but it gives me this nice warm feeling (like the electricity itself did, really) to know that, while my skills have been paying the bills for some eleven years already, my talent is also starting to pull its weight.

That sort of self-aggrandisement makes me uncomfortable, but you came to my blog. So there you go.

My point is, someone’s reading the books, even if nobody feels strongly enough about them to write a review lately. I’m not saying this to make non-reviewers in my circle of friends feel bad, it’s just a fact for the time being that I haven’t gotten that many reviews … indeed the last couple, following my Eejit give-away, were pretty negative anyway. Evidently the getting-books-for-free crowd are way harder to please than the paying-money-for-them crowd. I also had a bit of a mess around with my Amazon product page, finally getting the volume numbers into the e-book versions as well as the paperbacks, and switching my categories up so the series is consistent and finds its way into the same genre stream. All that jargon actually means something, I’m told.

In the meantime, I still have day-job work to do. It’s all going well, I suppose. As well as can be expected.

Here’s another beautiful video to cheer up your Wednesday.

I was going to wax philosophical about how few evils in the world are committed by cosplayers, but I think we can take it as read. We’re just a superior class of people. There’s no shame in being beaten by the best.

  1. My Wednesday remains uncheered, for the video is invisible.

As to the neg reviews… well, the getting-books-for-free crowd are way harder to please than the paying-money-for-them crowd just might be more accurate than you’d like. Though, my guess is that anger is simply a better motivator than pleasure what comes to getting people to use their keyboards. If you’ve made someone so upset that they’ve bothered to leave a negative comment… why, sir, you know you are doing something very right. 🙂

    Anyway, hooray for book sales!

Boo, the video’s not working? It looks fine at this end! Not sure what else I can do.

But the rest of your comment was much appreciated.

      • dreameling says:

Video works fine for more (both on desktop Chrome and surprisingly on Android Chrome).

        Book sales FTW!

We’re just a superior class of people.

Also, conspicuously, the cosplayers who end up on these compilation videos are typically friggin gorgeous (men and women both, but, fine, especially the women).

      • stchucky says:

Oh, there’s no doubt that cosplay requires body confidence and that definitely correlates to one’s body fitting the resident cultural norm for “fucking breathtaking”. Not always (as I like to think I exemplify), and sometimes those exceptions can be glorious and should always be encouraged … but like you say. Video compilation.

      • I feel compelled to make a comment here because I happened to discuss the very topic of body type representation in entertainment industry like video games with another friend elsewhere earlier today. I think that these video compilations tend to choose the “better endowed” cosplayers because they pick the cosplays that are closest to the original character’s body type, and we all know what THOSE tend to be like. It’s too bad really, because I think that cosplay is more about how you perform and less about whether or not your body type is “correct for the character”.

I could go on about how sometimes I need to take a break from all the unrealistic body types and even more unrealistic costume choices in entertainment industry, but that’s a topic for another day. 🙂

      • stchucky says:

And we’ll be ready for that day.

    • stchucky says:

I updated it with the YouTube version rather than the Facebook version, it doesn’t cut off so abruptly at the end and YouTube is generally a bit more dependable than even public Facebook.

      • dreameling says:

Actually, can I kindly request that you use YouTube videos whenever possible? They’re way more stable than anything else on my clients. Vimeo seems to be especially bad on mobile clients.

      • stchucky says:

I endeavour to find the YouTube version when I can. This time I was just being lazy. And yeah, Vimeo likes to make it difficult for YouTube to get a version sometimes. Although Vimeo tends to be higher quality in my experience.

      • Well, now that you updated to Youtube, it’s showing up. I was using Reader view on browser, so maybe the FB version got blocked? IDK, but my Wednesday is much the better for the update.

I also want to say that the Wolverine, and the Loki, might as well just be the real thing. They’re eerily identical and I think it would be pointless for those guys to cosplay as anything else, ever.

    • dreameling says:

Indeed. The Loki especially look almost exactly like Tom Hiddleston. I first thought it was him.

      • aaronthepatriot says:

Same for me and the Wolverine, I swear that really WAS Hugh Jackman. No one can convince me otherwise.

Sorry about those reviews, Hatboy! I will check to make sure I reviewed all four books, by the way, keep forgetting to check that and to get Bonshoon, which I think I never did buy. I want to check my shelves one more time because I’m poor, but I’m pretty sure I never did buy it. A mistake I will remedy, I promise!

      • stchucky says:

The Wolverine dude’s picture is part of the YouTube “cover” image, that was the only way I could be sure it wasn’t really Jackman. And I really had to study that shit. Eerie.

Don’t worry about the reviews! First, as Cat Protocol says, it’s easier for someone to get riled and say something negative than for someone to be pleased and say something good. At least that’s how I choose to interpret her comment … and as such, my positive reviews (the very best of which have been from you) mean much more than the couple of negative ones.

I’d recommend saving up and getting the hardcovers, but I’ll be finishing the whole series before doing that. Maybe this year, at this pace? Who knows?

      • aaronthepatriot says:

That’s sweet of you to say my reviews are the best…I do try! I’m sure I did my best! Hmm..hardcovers? You might have a point there.

STFU about that Wolverine, it IS Hugh Jackman. I just told you that you can’t convince me otherwise. Learn to recognize Australians, you damn Finn!

      • stchucky says:

All Eastern Staters look the same.
