Day 2. 8 pages, 2,433 words.
After starting off my 2015 with pepper Viru Valge, Tabasco, jallu, Unicum, Sambuca, Mansikki, Caol Ila, an assortment of energy drinks and other weirdness (some of which you will probably need to google but I would recommend against googling), I was surprised to find myself without a hangover on Thursday morning. Although I was up to look after Toop at half-past seven in the morning after a grand total of three hours’ sleep, and a resurfacing of this crappy cold, so not exactly a stellar day.
And my dear darling brilliant first-born decided to spend the day being a platinum-plated pain in the butt, which didn’t help. Bless her. We did build some Lego and get out for a snowball fight, which was nice, and sat and watched Labyrinth, which was funny. A good start to the year despite my grumpiness and Wump’s drama.
Now I’m back at work. Lots to do today, and I’m actually enjoying it! Actual work work, that is, not the writing (which I am also enjoying even though it’s getting off to a slow start and I still have the edits to Drednanth to take care of). Maybe this is the start of a new upswing. Bit of a sprint to my spring deadlines, so an upswing is welcome.
Mrs. Hatboy helped enormously, by helping with the tantrums and screaming and also – amazingly – getting a few more strips of wallpaper onto Toop’s walls. Best of all, she sat down and we bought our tickets to Australia this summer. Just a shade under €4,000 for the four of us, but Toop actually only costs about €100 each way. And now we can’t cancel because the airline won’t refund us, so we’re going. That’s it.
All in all, a busy and effective start to the year.
