Creepy and Hatboy Make the Big Time

I know it’s been a long, long time since I last updated my blog, but there has been very little of any interest happening and although I haven’t been busy as such, I’ve still been not-busy doing other stuff than this blog. Forgive me, anybody who might be reading this for no known reason.

Anyway, it became pretty much official today that the modest adventures of Creepy and Hatboy are actually going to get themselves published, and even if it’s just a little sci-fi magazine, it’s still a good start, and any publicity is good publicity, as I’m sure Creepy and Hatboy themselves would agree.

So keep your eyes peeled (or nearest painless alternative) for Issue #23 of Andromeda Spaceways Inflight Magazine! Featuring the amazing adventures of two fabulously impressive fellows, or at least one fabulously impressive fellow and Creepy.

Anyway, today I got an Email from my editor, which was very exciting. Along with a track-changes .rtf of my story, with all the zazz squeezed out of it. I’m kidding, of course. Actually, there weren’t really any changes that ruined the storyline at all, and only a couple that I felt should be re-re-edited so the joke was still funny. All in all, it looks good.

So The Once and Future Creepy (what a title to add to my authorial CV!) goes ahead as planned, and will be appearing, presumably, on shelves somewhere in February 2006.

If not, I guess my editor is still going to get paid. And, hopefully, I am too. I get paid in copies of the magazine, which is okay with me because let’s face it, it’s a short story and even if I was paid in cash it wouldn’t be enough to buy a meal at a Helsinki restaurant. But it’s good enough for a first go.

Bring on the next one!

About Hatboy

I’m not often driven to introspection or reflection, but the question does come up sometimes. The big question. So big, there’s just no containing it within the puny boundaries of a single set of punctuationary bookends. Who are these mysterious and unsung heroes of obscurity and shadow? What is their origin story? Do they have a prequel trilogy? What are their secret identities? What are their public identities, for that matter? What are their powers? Their abilities? Their haunted pasts and troubled futures? Their modus operandi? Where do they live anyway, and when? What do they do for a living? Do they really have these fantastical adventures, or is it a dazzlingly intellectual and overwrought metaphor? Or is it perhaps a smug and post-modern sort of metaphor? Is it a plain stupid metaphor, hedged around with thick wads of plausible deniability, a soap bubble of illusory plot dependent upon readers who don’t dare question it for fear of looking foolish? A flight of fancy, having dozed off in front of the television during an episode of something suitably spaceship-oriented? Do they have a quest, a handler, a mission statement, a department-level development objective in five stages? I am Hatboy.

I know the feeling re: blog-updating. Ah well, I guess we can just sit back and sneer at the proles who can’t stop babbling out their boring lives to the intarweb, while we… er…I know I meant to go somewhere with this. And damn you, I got all excited by the underlined "Once and Future Creepy" and tried to click on it several times before realising it wasn’t a link.Hmmm, I should probably email you and work out when you’re allegedly coming over here. You may have heard there’s been riots in Sydney, almost certainly caused by malicious rumours that you’d be stopping by on the way here. Dreadful how these things happen.Just so you know, the tipping point for me getting a wonderful MSN "passport" (oh the joy, I feel like I’m a real person now) was actually a client who only had an MSN Messenger account or instant messenging. The horror. So now I’m an IM-system slut as well. Sigh.

Sorry about the lack of links. There are a few places you’ll find Creepy and Hatboy material, not least of which is here:

That is written by Creepy, though, not Hatboy.

I’ll also try to throw up a link to the magazine it’s appearing in:

I don’t think it’s mentioned there yet, but it should be soon. Thanks for Emailing.
